- RCO Season Opener - Nov 2011
RCO launched its 2011-2012 season on November 20 to a standing-room-only audience in the newly renovated community room of RCC-Hunters Woods (note the greatly improved acoustics and lighting). The orchestra also collected over 200 lbs of food for the

- RCO Awarded Arts Grants - Oct 2011
Once again, RCO is proud to be the recepient of general operating and organizational development grants from the Arts Council of Fairfax County. This competitive award will greatly assist the orchestra in reaching a larger audience; thank you Fairfax!
- RCO Trumpeter awarded music scholarship
Congratulations to one of RCO's own, trumpeter Dominic Favia, who has been accepted on scholarship to Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
- Best of Reston 2011
RCO's president, Beverly Cosham was named as one of the Best of Reston . Ms Cosham, who is also the current president of the Reston Community Center Board of Governors, will
receive her award at the annual black-tie ceremony on April 28. Congratulations!

- Nov 2010 concert
Young local composer Brian Scarbrough received a standing ovation for the world premier of his Symphony #1 in E minor. Also performing to standing ovations
was Army tenor Antonio Giuliano. The audience met with both gifted artists at a reception following the Nov 21 concert.
- Fall 2010 Grant Award
RCO was recently awarded a competitive Operating Support grant from the Arts Council of Fairfax County. We'll be matching those funds with donations from our generous supporters to present four free concerts for our 2010-2011 season.

Our Summer Reading (open rehearsals) were a great success! We attracted many new musicians, some of whom have elected to join us for our Fall rehearsals. The orchestra got a sneak peak
at the first movement of our commission piece from Brian Scarbrough (due for world premiere by us in Nov) and is very excited about this new work.

- 2010 Grant Award
RCO was recently awarded a competitive project grant from the Arts Council of Fairfax County. We'll be matching those funds with donations from our generous supporters to commission a new work from young, local composer Brian Scarbrough. RCO will perform the world premiere of that work at its season opening concert on Sunday - November 21, 2010 4pm at the Reston Community Center-Hunters Woods. Plan to join us!

At its Memorial Day concert, RCO honored veterens and local youth. An enthusiastic audience enjoyed solo performances from Shankar Balasubramanian on violin and Dominic Favia on trumpet. Juggler-comedian Jonathan Austin drew laughs and applause during the second half with his mix of tricks and stunts.

Many thanks to the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble for a great night of big band swing music. Many thanks to Sunset Hills Montessori , and many thanks to all our numerous sponsors and volunteers for another successful event.

At the recent March 28 concert, over 140 audience members enjoyed the world premier of "Jovial Pursuit" by local composer David Rubenstein.
The audience also gave standing ovations to piano soloist Carol Ann Barry's playing of Chopin's 2nd piano concerto and to clarinetist Arnold Saslowsky's playing of the Crusell clarinet concerto.
- RCO Trumpeter - Dominic Favia
made the 2010 National Trumpet
Completion Finals in March 2010 for the 4th year in a row. This year Dominic
placed third in the High School Division - especially impressive since he is a Junior and the competition is open to all high school
age trumpeters in the USA.
Dominic is also currently in the National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellowship Program and has
been with the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra
since 7th grade. In addition to serving as Assistant Principal Trumpet with
the Reston Community Orchestra in his spare time, Dominic has sat in with
Alte Kameraden and performed with the Vienna Community Band for several
years.
Over 200 audience members enjoyed the Voices of Worship gospel choir led by Felicia Crawley, soloists Jasmine Muhammed and Beverly Cosham perform with the RCO for an all African-American music concert on January 16, 2010, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The orchestra looks forward to more standing ovations in 2011 when it celebrates its 5th Annual MLK Anniversary.
- Brass Ensemble Holiday Event
The RCO Brass will perform at the Reston Town Center on Sunday December 20, 2009 at 2 and 4 PM.
These are both one hour sets of holiday carols, performed in a relaxing manner for shoppers and guests around at the South Market Street promenade, which is the area between Market St. and Democracy St. between Mon Ami Gabi and Anthropologie.
Over 250 audience members gave contemporary composer, David Ott, a standing ovation after hearing his specially commissioned work, Symphony No. 5 in B flat.
The orchestra also performed Beethoven's 7th symphony and work by Cesar Cui.
Noted contemporary composer, David Ott led a master class in composition on Saturday, Nov 21 at the Sunset Hills Montesorri School in Reston.
Over 35 music lovers, aged 6-60+, listened to his behind-the-scenes notes about his own music and the grand sweep of music history.
The Arts Council of Fairfax County has awarded the RCO a generous operating grant for the 2009-2010 season.

Thanks to a competitive grant award from the Arts Council of Fairfax County, the RCO will perform the World Premiere of a specially commissioned piece by noted American composer, David Ott.
The featured work will be part of the RCO's 26th season opening performance on Sunday, Nov 22 at the Reston Community Center in Hunters Woods. Stay tuned for details and your personal invitation!
The RCO ended its 2008-2009 season with its annual youth concert. Feature artists were SLHS own Regina LaValley performing a contemporary bassoon concerto and local glass harmonica player, Jamey Turner.
Highlights included performances of "Peter & the Wolf" and the "Toy Symphony".
The Annual Pops Fundraiser was a near sell-out with over 155 paid guests enjoying carbaret sets by Reston's own Bev Cosham, and the orchestra performing a variety of Broadway and Hollywood numbers - all with hip decorations, generous bar and catered dinner. Plan to join us next year!
The joint performance of Reston Chorale and the RCO drew a standing ovation from an audience of over 250. The orchestra presented a cake and signed photo to Reston's founder, Bob Simon, in celebration of his 95th birthday.
